I care about your privacy almost as much as I care about calm, happy hounds. I’ll never sell your data, and I’ll only use it in ways that help me provide services to you. This policy explains what personal information I collect, why I collect it, and how you can stay in control.
Who I Am
I’m Karen van Wyk, trading as Happy Humans, Happy Hounds. If you have any questions about this policy or how I handle your information, you can contact me at [email protected]
I am registered with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). My registration number is CSN5779837.
What Information I Collect
I may collect:
• Contact details (name, email, phone number) when you enquire, book a consultation, or sign up to my community.
• Notes I make when I work with you and your dog.
• Payment information (processed securely by third-party payment providers — I don’t store your card details).
• Technical data (cookies, IP address, browser type) when you use my website.
• Video recordings if you join group sessions or 1-to-1 calls on Zoom (only if I let you know in advance).
Why I Collect It (Legal Basis)
Under UK GDPR, I need a lawful basis for using your data. I use it because:
• Contract: I need it to provide the services you’ve asked for (consultations, online courses, community access).
• Consent: You’ve given permission (e.g. subscribing to my newsletter). You can opt out of non-essential communication at any time.
• Legitimate Interests: To improve my services, keep records, or send occasional updates you might reasonably expect.
• Legal obligation: Sometimes I have to keep records for tax or legal reasons.
How Long I Keep It
• Client records and consultation notes: Up to 6 years after our last contact (to comply with tax and insurance requirements), then securely deleted.
• Newsletter subscribers: Until you unsubscribe.
• Community members: While you remain an active member, and up to 12 months after, unless you ask me to delete your data sooner.
• Cookies/analytics data: As per cookie settings and your browser controls.
Who I Share Your Data With
I don’t sell your data to anyone — ever. I do use trusted third-party providers to help me run my business:
• Zoom (for meetings and group sessions)
• Google G Suite (for email and cloud storage)
• Content Creator Machine (CRM platform) (to host my website, community, and securely store client info)
• Payment providers (if you buy something from me)
• Google Analytics (to understand how people use my site, anonymously)
Each of these has their own privacy and security measures in place.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
• Access the personal data I hold about you.
• Ask me to correct or update it.
• Request deletion of your data (unless I need it for legal reasons).
• Withdraw consent (e.g. unsubscribe from emails).
• Object to certain uses of your data.
• Request data portability.
To exercise your rights, email me at [email protected].
Release of Information
If I sell Happy Humans Happy Hounds, the information I have obtained from you through your use of my site may transfer to the new owner as a part of the sale so that the service provided to you may continue. In that event, you will receive notice through the website of that change in control and practices, and I will make reasonable efforts to ensure that the purchaser honours any opt-out requests you might make.
Complaints
If you’re not happy with how I handle your data, please let me know so I can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the ICO: www.ico.org.uk.
